Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions. Have another question not answered here? Contact us:

1. What is the idea?

"755" is an iconic number, synonymous with Home Run History.

EndTheDebate.com was founded by a group of sports fans who joined together out of a common belief that the public, rather than the media or organized baseball, should decide on the legitimacy of Barry Bonds' feat, and whether he should displace Hank Aaron as the “Home Run King”.

EndTheDebate believes that there is only one way to answer this question: by having a legitimate and fully open vote on the fate of Bonds' 755th home run ball. Why? Aaron hit 755 home runs. If he is the true home run champion, there can be only one 755 ball in the Baseball Hall of Fame. If Bonds' record is legitimate, his 755th ball should sit alongside Aaron's in Cooperstown.

So we at EndTheDebate banded together, raised some money, and bought Ball 755 at auction on Saturday, September 15. Now, we’re providing an opportunity for baseball fans around the world, Barry Believers, Barry Bashers, and the public at large to settle the score, once and for all.

It’s time to END THE DEBATE!

We will DONATE Barry Bonds’ 755th to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, or DESTROY the historical ball and allow Hank Aaron's "755" to remain the sole display of this long-standing record.

Is Barry a cheater or the home run champ? You will be given the chance to cast your vote, and we will listen.

Voting is completely free and supported entirely by advertisers, who can purchase “ad squares” – 100-pixel boxes – at the cost of $200/square. There are 7,550 ad squares – 755,000 pixels – available. You may purchase as many squares as you like, as long as they’re available, entitling you to display an image/ad/logo of your choice in the space you have purchased. This image can be “hot” and link to your website. (Note: No adult, obscene or offensive images will be accepted.)

The pixels you buy will be displayed on EndTheDebate.com until at least August 4, 2012 – the 5-year anniversary of Barry Bonds 755th Home Run. We intend to do a substantial publicity campaign around this website in order to deliver a very good value for our advertisers. In addition, you will have a piece of Internet history!

2. Who are you?

EndTheDebate.com was founded by Internet Entrepreneur, Ben Padnos and a small group of my friends who believe a public forum should have a greater impact on topics of contention. We are “regular sports fans” and raised funds to acquire Barry Bonds’ 755th Home Run baseball and create this website. Our goal is to settle the debate – is Bonds’ record real or undeserved -- once and for all.

EndTheDebate, LLC is a Delaware Limited Liability Company, and the ball is being held in a secure location until the 7,550 square grid fills up, or March 31, 2008, whichever comes first.

3. Is this real, or is this a joke?

We are 100% serious. This is the single largest Internet sporting event of all time!

Although this website may be hard to believe, we thought that offering the public the opportunity to voice its opinion on this heated controversy would help settle the matter once and for all.

You have the chance to cast your vote, and we will listen. You may vote up to once per day per valid email address, and based on public opinion, we will either donate the ball to the Hall of Fame, or come up with a giant production to destroy it!

4. How did you come up with the idea?

EndTheDebate’s Founders, a group of “regular sports fans”, joined together out of a common belief that the public, rather than the media or organized baseball, should decide on the legitimacy of Barry Bonds' feat, and whether he would displace Hank Aaron as the “Home Run King”.

There are a few numbers in sports that require little explanation. Just say “755” and baseball fans throughout the world instantly recall what is perhaps the most hallowed record in all of sports. At EndTheDebate, we believe there is only one way to address the controversy: by having a legitimate and fully open vote on the fate of Bonds' 755th home run ball. Why? Aaron hit 755 home runs. If he is the true home run king, there can be only one 755 ball in the Baseball Hall of Fame. If Bonds' record is legitimate, his 755th ball should sit alongside Aaron's in Cooperstown.

We thought adding a “voting” component, subsidized by advertisers, would be a very interesting social experiment, and we’ve launched our company around this premise. The "755" event is the Company's debut topic, and more events covering different topics are expected in the future.

5. Why should I buy advertising on EndTheDebate.com?

You should buy advertising on this site because:

1) You think this is a good advertising value - You will have an image and a link to your website on the front page of a site that could potentially be seen by tens of millions of people from around the world. (Note: The site will be online through at least August 4, 2012 – the 5-year anniversary of Barry Bonds’ 755th Home Run.)

2) To the best of our knowledge, this event is the first of its kind, so buying advertising gives you a place in “internet history”.

3) Why not have a little fun with your marketing dollars?

7. Can I cast a vote multiple times?

Yes! You can return and vote several times, to support your point of view in a more persistent way. NOTE: you may vote only ONCE PER DAY. That means, once you have voted using your e-mail address, another vote from this e-mail address will only be accepted after 24 hours.

8. Can I buy one single pixel?

No. We don’t believe you can display anything meaningful in anything less than 100 pixels. So, no purchases of less than 100 pixels – a 10x10 pixel “ad square” -- will be accepted.

9. How long will the site be online?

The page is guaranteed to be online until at least August 4, 2012 – the 5-year anniversary of Barry Bonds’ 755th Home Run.

We will accept advertising on the site from now until the grid fills up with 7,550 ad squares (755,000 pixels), or March 31, 2008 -- whichever comes first.

Please note that this innovative website is also intended to be a social experiment on the use of the Internet to determine a heated debate. By visiting the site, voting, buying ads, clicking on links, and/or spreading the word about EndTheDebate.com, you are playing a role in Internet history!

10. What if the site doesn’t reach it to 7,550 ad squares sold?

If we do not sell out the grid by March 31, 2008 – in time for the start of the 2008 baseball season -- EndTheDebate, LLC has the right to stop accepting advertising and do whatever we want with the ball – donate it, smash it, keep it or sell it.

Folks, we honestly do not want this to happen. We want to “end the debate”, once and for all. Please help by voting, buying advertising, and spreading the word about endthedebate.com!

11. Do you accept advertisers outside of the United States?

Absolutely! The Internet is a global medium and just as baseball has fans around the world, we expect to have advertisers from all over the globe. As long as you can pay via PayPal, Google Checkout, our standard credit card processing or Wire Transfer, you can advertise on EndTheDebate.com!

12. Is this a contest? Are there any prizes?

No. This is not a contest, lottery or sweepstakes, and there are no prizes. We are selling advertising on EndTheDebate.com, and when we sell out of advertising – 7,550 ad squares -- we’ll either donate the ball to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, or we’ll destroy it.
